5ailands09 Words: Creative Writing Competition

5ailands Words: Creative Writing Expressions provides a platform for all Sai youth of Zone 3, regardless of their conference attendance, to voice their thoughts, ideas and experiences on the conference theme: "Oceans Apart, United in Sai".

Conditions

1. English is the preferred language. Contributions in another scripted language will enhance 5ailands Words by reflecting the linguistic diversity of Zone 3 and are encouraged, provided they are accompanied by an English translation.
2. The word limit is 500 words, not including the information requested in Item 7. Do not include graphics, web links and references. 5ailands Words is to an expression of creative writing only.
3. Contributions have to be original works and not reproduced from other sources.
4. The contribution may be in any mode of the written word eg. prose, essay, poetry, that is able to be delivered by a single reader [see Item 9]

Format:
5. Each contribution must be submitted in MS Word 2003 file format. If MS Word 2003 does not support the language of the piece, then the piece is to be scanned as a PDF with the English translation attached.
6. Font: Times New Roman, size 12 (Contributor's details in Bold); Line spacing: 2 lines;
   Paragraph: First line indented 1cm

Contributor's details:
7. One contribution per Sai youth [aged 18-35 years].
8. Each contribution should include at the top of Page 1:
1. Title
2. Contributor's full name, with the surname underlined and preferred name in capital letters
3. Contributor's email address
4. Country represented
5. Language the piece was written in, if not English

Judging:
9. Five [5] contributions will be short-listed before the conference by an independent adjudicator according to:
1. Relevance to the theme
2. Adherence to the word limit
3. Lucidity and readability
10. The short-listed contributions will be read out at the 5ailands09 conference by the author or their nominated representative. In the absence of such representation, the conference organisers shall nominate a reader.
11. A panel of independent judges will select the best entry and a prize shall be awarded.
12. Selected contributions from the entire pool of contributions may feature as an exhibit at the conference or conference publication.
